Not that kind of special
I was at the store today picking out some birthday cards, and while the selection at this store seemed much better than what I’m used to, it was nonetheless a bit odd. I glanced at a few of the cards that had the “special friend” labels behind their slots and was taken aback by the language and sentiments expressed in these cards. They weren’t overtly risque, but they were certainly suggestive of far more than platonic friendship. Did I miss something? When did “special friend” become a synonym for “mistress”?
I have special friends, but not that kind of special.
